Fear is just a liar running out of breath.
Fear furrowing feelings of fright
Free falling, frozen, afraid
Crippled by anxiety
Gripped by imagination
Trampled with terror
Grappling elements and emotions
Seeking security
For a heart settled
A mind mended
Unsure, unsteady
Unknowns knocking
Worries weighing
Held hostage by lies
Defenseless
Deafening doubts
Releasing restlessness
Raging war on promises positioned
Praises compounded
Prophesying proclaimed
Power plighted in presence
Peace awakened in wrestles
Wrought in the wait
Stilling heart and mind
In steady surrenders
Repositioned in perfect love
Casting out fear
Counseled, consoled
Captivating courage
Free falling into freedom
Found in firm foundations
Resting in The Defender
Soul secured in The Savior
Mind mended in mercy
Heart reclaimed in remarkable trust
Has fear ever gripped your heart and mind so tightly that you felt utterly powerless, defenseless, and maybe even physically ill? Anxiety tries to make a home in your mind and loosen the anchor of your heart that has been fixed in truth. Security is sacrificed to every sound and imaginary scenario. Silence threatens steadiness as shadows of doubts detour actualities.
Maybe anxiety attacked all of a sudden or maybe it was revealed from an underlying, subconscious fear or trauma from the past. The evidence of anxiety in our generation is astounding. The battles and sufferings from this attack of the enemy are indescribable. Cries for relief and restoration are often only uttered in the depths of a dark, restless night.
Do you know what else is indescribable? The peace of God. His peace that is given out of an extravagant love that has the power to cast out all fear, relinquishing stillness and steadiness to an anxious heart and mind. God knows every thought in your mind before it even has a chance to surface in your mind. (Psalm 139:2) God hears every cry for help, both uttered aloud and those uttered through your spirit. He is always near and ready to activate His power within you to fight against every lie, worry, and fear. His power gives us the authority to take every anxious thought captive and return them to the reign of Jesus. (2 Cor. 10:5) Your thoughts and feelings of anxiety have no power over you when your heart and mind are surrendered and submitted to Jesus, who conquered and overcame all darkness and every attack from the enemy.
“Fear is just a liar running out of breath”—Not Today by Hillsong United
I love this lyric from Hillsong United. Fear tries to invade your mind with lies and rip your heart out of the mighty hands of the Father, but God’s breath sustains yours and gives you the power to speak to fear and tell it to flee in Jesus’ name. Fear and anxiety have no option but to bow in the presence of Jesus.
Your heart and mind are already secured in the Savior. Keep seeking Him. Keep leaning into His presence. Lay your head on His chest and learn His heartbeat. It beats with incredible love for you. He is your defense, your shield, and your protector against every threat of the enemy. Let Him settle your heart and mend your mind. Rest your whole being in who He is and remember that He has graced you with the weapons of praise, peace, and His presence to fight against all fear and anxiety.
